What is Bingo?
Bingo is the the band's largest
single fundraiser. It can help pay from 1/3 to 1/2 of our total
budget for the year. It is absolutely vital that we keep bingo running
smoothly. The Tates Creek Band runs the Eastland Bingo Hall every
Friday night of the year except if Christmas or Christmas Eve fall
on a Friday. We must always have enough people there to work each
and every Friday. There can be well over a hundred people playing
bingo on any given Friday. Currently, smoking is allowed in the
bingo hall. The people playing bingo will also play the many $1
pull tabs that we sell. The band rents the hall, pays for the bingo
caller and security, and runs all the operations of bingo and tab
selling. The concessions are not part of our responsibility.

How we do it?
Each person working
Bingo will be assigned to one of four "Teams" to work
one Friday night of each month. Week 1 team covers the first week
of each month. Week 2 team covers the second, etc. Some months have
a fifth Friday in them. We expect everyone to work at least one
of these extra Fridays. A person from each team is designated to
call their team members early during their week with a reminder
to work bingo. Each team will also have a chairperson who is responsible
for the overall operation for their week. The students are allowed
to work selling tabs. If we feel like we might not have enough people
to work, we will call or email for more help. This happens frequently
during the fall during home football games where the bingo-working
students must attend the game. Parents are expected to be there
for their assigned night. If you can't work for some reason, try
to contact someone to fill in for you. You must notify us if you
are unable to work your night.

Selling Tabs:
Most people will be involved with
selling tabs. The sellers walk around selling pull tabs to people as
they play bingo. Pull tabs are similar to lottery scratch-off games.
The player pulls off a tab to reveal if they have a winning tab. Some
have instant winnings from $1, up to $150. The tab sellers can cash
these in for the players. Others have no winners. Others have a special
number on them. The player will keep these tabs. When all tabs from
that lot are sold, the winning number is revealed and a larger payout
is awarded to the player holding the tab matching that number. We can
also accept winning tabs for purchasing more tabs. People catch on selling
tabs very quickly and are led around partnered with an experienced seller
before being turned loose on their own.
Behind the Counters(Adults Only): We
need to have 4 adults behind the Bingo counter selling bingo cards,
cashing checks for players, selling Oddball bingo games,
running the computer u-pick-em, and getting the bingo winning payouts
ready. Two adults usually are assigned to the Tabs check-in table where
we count in the Tab seller's money and winning tabs. Three more people
work behind the Tab counter. The counter jobs take some training. We
are always willing to train adults for these positions since we loose
the Senior parents each year and can always use people to fill in if
someone can't make it. Those working behind the counters are expected
to be there by no later than 5:30 to get the nights play ready.
